TUKWILA, WA (June 20, 2012) – The Pali Blues (8-0-0) hit the road for three games in six days starting off with a 2-0 victory over the second-place Seattle Sounders (5-1-1) on Wednesday, June 20th at the Starfire Stadium in front of 3,500 fans. The goals were scored in the opening minutes by forward Lynn Williams, and midfielder Nikki Washington, and the Blues held on to the lead for the remaining 84 minutes of the match.
The first goal came off a counter attack when Seattle lost possession and Elizabeth Eddy curved a pass in front of Williams who controlled the ball and dribbled towards goal to slot her shot into the lower right corner of goal in the 5th minute.
A minute later, defender Sasha Andrews saw Nikki Washington wide open and played her a long ball up the field to her. With Seattle defenders failing to attack the incoming pass, Washington took advantage and hit the ball over goalkeeper Katie Hultin and watched it bounced into the open net.
The remainder of the half saw the Blues take 10 shots, including one from Hubka that forced Hultin to dive and punch the ball away in fantastic fashion. The Blues did a great job defensively and turned away every Seattle pass that could have led to a goal opportunity, keeping the Sounders at zero shots in the first 45 minutes.
The second half was a more evenly-played match with Pali taking four shots, while Seattle took five. However, none of those chances would result in a goal for the Sounders, and the Blues handed them their first loss of the season.
