TAMPA, Fla. (June 6, 2012) – The W-League announced its Team of the Week for Week 4 of the 2012 season today, honoring New Jersey Wildcats forward Maya Hayes as Player of the Week. Seeing her first action of the season Hayes tallied six goals and three assists in the week, including a four-goal outburst against the New Jersey Rangers, to help the Wildcats stay within a point of Long Island for the Northeast Division lead. Pali’s Servet Uzunlar was included in the team of the week for her game-winner against Santa Clarita that improves the Blues record to 4-0-0.
Uzunlar has been a force for Pali since her first game played, the away fixture at Santa Clarita. She leads the team with 12 shots in three games this season, but had not scored until her game-winner Santa Clarita last week.
Forward Liz Bogus and defender Christie Shaner made the honorable mention for the week. Bogus currently leads the team with seven points from two goals and three assits. On Wednesday, she had the initial header on goal that was saved, but then kicked the ball back to the senter of the penalty area where Unzunlar shot the game-winner against Santa Clarita.
Shaner was exceptional in the back line for the blues against the Blue Heat, and along with the rest of the defense stopped almost every attack from a respectable opponent. She had one big opportunity to score a goal, but her header was denied by the Blue Heat’s goalkeeper.
Below is the entire selection of players on the Team of the Week and those who earned honorable mention for Week 4 of the 2012 W-League season.
