Los Angeles, Calif. – Women’s Professional Soccer held its annual draft on Friday, January 13, 2012 at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Kansas City, Mo. One player from the 2011 Pali Blues’ roster was drafted, and that was Cami Levin, selected 4th overall by Sky Blue FC.
“Levin is a versatile player who brings many intangibles to our team,” said Sky Blue FC head coach Jim Gabarra on his decision. “She is a brilliant attack-minded defender, and she has the talent to play almost anywhere on the field.”
Levin, from Newport Coast, Calif., played her collegiate career at Stanford and developed as one of the most versatile players in the country, where she played as a forward, central midfielder, and outside back, helping her team to three consecutive appearances in the NCAA D1 championship match, and a Final Four appearance in 2008, her freshman year.
She ended her career at Stanford a champion. Her usual work ethic paid off in one of the most important attacking plays of her life. After receiving the ball, getting tackled, and regaining possession of it, she sent a cross into the mouth of the goal to assist Teresa Noyola’s game-winner. The Cardinal won the national title with a 1-0 victory over Duke.
While at Pali, Levin only played three games, but was a key player in Pali’s attack, while the statistics don’t show it. She only earned one point for an assist, but managed to take four shots as a defender.
