Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Thursday, May 1, 2008) – The Pali Blues Soccer Club made official today the signing of 2006 Big East Defender of the Year Carrie Dew. The Notre Dame standout brings another talented back to the Blues in their first-ever season in the USL W-League.
"We are pleased to add another experienced back to our roster,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo stated. “Carrie has been brought up in a great club and college setting as well as having strong national team experience, and she will adjust quickly. She will also give us the flexibility to move other backs into the midfield."
Dew recently completed her junior season at Notre Dame and helped guide the Irish to the 2007 NCAA Final Four one year after a championship game appearance. Following her freshman season in South Bend, she was an honorable mention for the 2005 All-Big East Team. She followed that up with All-Big First Team and NSCAA All-Region First Team selections after her sophomore campaign, and she was ultimately named the 2006 Big East Defender of the Year.
Dew first gained experience on the international stage while playing with the U-16 National Team in 2002 and the U-17 National Team in 2003. She was called into her first camp with the U-20 National Team in January of 2006.
Dew played 10 years on the club level with the San Diego Surf. The Encinitas, California, native captained the Surf to the 2003 U-16 national title. She won four state titles with the club as well as the 2003 Region IV championship, and she also won an ODP National Title with Cal-South in 2004. The three-time NSCAA High School All-American tallied 36 career goals and 25 assists while leading La Costa Canyon High School to a pair of California Interscholastic Federation (CIP) state titles.
The Blues will play the first game of their inaugural USL W-League regular season on the road against the Ventura County Fusion on Saturday, May 10. The following weekend, the Blues will play their inaugural home contest at the “Stadium by the Sea” when they host the Los Angeles Legends on Saturday, May 17. Tickets for home match ups are only $10 for adults ($8 with student ID) and $5 for kids under the age of 12.
