PALI BLUES PLACE FIVE ON HERMANN TROPHY WATCH LIST
Blues Top W-League Teams in Highest Tally Named to List

Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Monday, August 31, 2009) – With the 2009 women’s college soccer season officially underway, the NCAA recently announced their watch list for the Hermann Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in the nation at the conclusion of the year. Receiving the highest number of nods amongst the USL W-League member clubs, the back-to-back league champion Pali Blues Soccer Club saw five of their players get named to the list.

45 total players were placed on the watch list, and 19 of those selected participated in the W-League during this past summer. U.S. National Team midfielder Tobin Heath and defender Whitney Engen are two Blues representatives that were named and are also in search of a third national championship in four years of playing at the University of North Carolina. Goalkeeper Kristin Olsen is another Blues player that is hopeful of padding her resume by winning a second title at the University of Southern California. U.S. National Team striker Lauren Cheney (UCLA) and Stanford University forward Kelley O’Hara are the final two players on the 2009 Blues roster that round out the NCAA Hermann Trophy watch list.

The Pali Blues capped off a second consecutive undefeated title run earlier this month when they defeated the Washington Freedom by a tally of 2-1 in the W-League championship game. In two seasons in the W-League, the Blues have accumulated a 29-game unbeaten streak.
