Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Monday, July 20, 2009) – In a town known for its star power, the Pacific Palisades can soon add Marta to its list of luminaries to pay a visit. With the Pali Blues locking up the USL W-League Western Conference and the Los Angeles Sol sitting at the top of the standings in Women’s Professional Soccer, playoff fever is poised to strike soccer fans in the Southland. Saturday, July 25 at 7PM – at its upcoming playoff game against the Colorado Force – The Blues will welcome Marta and her Los Angeles Sol teammates to the Pali High School Stadium-by-the-Sea.

At halftime, the Sol will hold a special on-field autograph session for fans. In addition, fans will be able to purchase a Los Angeles Sol playoff ticket package that includes a limited-edition bobble-head doll featuring the three-time FIFA World Female Player of the Year.

“Marta has been everything we hoped she’d be and then some,” explained Pali Blues coach and Sol General Manager Charlie Naimo. “She is getting it done on the field and has been a great ambassador for the club, the league and the game.”

“Having Marta in the stadium will be fantastic,” agreed Blues GM Jason Lemire. “Our fans come to Pali Blues games to see stars in the making. Marta and her fellow teammates on the Sol represent the fulfillment of that dream.”

As for the success his teams have enjoyed so far, Naimo keeps his eyes fixed squarely on the silverware. “It is a great feeling that both of my teams are in a position for success but we expected it. Everyone worked extremely hard in the fall and winter and now we are enjoying the fruits of our labor. However, neither players nor staff are content. We are focused on championships.”

In just their first season of play in 2008, the Pali Blues posted a perfect 14-0 record and won the USL W-League championship. The team finished the calendar year as the #2 ranked women’s club in the world by Women’s World Football and also saw an astonishing 15 players from their 2008 roster move on to play in the highest level of women’s soccer on the continent, Women’s Professional Soccer. This season, the Blues have racked up an 8-0-3 record with a team featuring some of the best young talent in the world.

The USL W-League played its inaugural season in 1995, and it is recognized as the premiere development league for female players in North America.
