PALI BLUES CONTINUE THEIR PRESEASON DOMINANCE
The Blues Extend Their Winning Streak

Pacific Palisades, Calif. (Tuesday, April 8, 2008) — The Pali Blues extended their winning streak to three games as they defeated the U.S. Women’s Under-20 National Team, 4-2, at The Home Depot Center in front of about 75 onlookers.

The Blues asserted their dominance, quickly attacking most of the first half. In the 15th minute, midfielder Rosie Tantillo broke free and was able to get the Blues on the scoreboard first. Tantillo’s goal also made her the leading goal scorer for the team during their preseason campaign. Eleven minutes later, Kandace Wilson scored, helping the visiting team go into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, a pass from Tantillo to Mele French led to another Blues goal, but the celebration would be short-lived as National team forward Sydney Leroux tallied a goal for the home team, finally beating the Blues defense that had been frustrating them for most of the game. Shortly after that, the National team’s Christine Nairn scored another goal, cutting further into the Blues’ lead.

A long pass from Danesha Adams found Wilson one-on-one with the keeper. Wilson was able to beat the keeper, scoring her second goal of the game seconds before the referee blew the final whistle.

With another win under their belts, the Pali Blues face UCLA next Wednesday, April 16, for a Charity match benefiting The Painted Turtle.

Here’s what Head Coach Charlie Naimo had to say about the game:

"I was very pleased with our performance, but the National Team posed problems once we tired. Defensively, we were very strong.  The backs were fantastic and as a group, we complicated things for them. The chances we gave up were the results of bad decisions late in the match. On the attacking side, I thought we were dangerous and certainly efficient against a great team."
