PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. (Thursday, April 3, 2008) - The Pali Blues Soccer Club made official today their involvement with “The Painted Turtle” charity for seriously ill children. All proceeds from the Blues’ 7:30 p.m. preseason exhibition with UCLA on Wednesday, April 16, at the Stadium by the Sea will go towards the camp.
"We are very excited for this game,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo commented. “Not only do we get to play one of the best programs in the country, but we get to support a special charity at the same time. Soccer is always a great way to create awareness, and the Blues are very happy to be involved and help."
Actor Paul Newman and Page Adler founded The Painted Turtle in 1999. Once it was discovered that more than one million children in California suffer chronic illnesses, further research revealed that over 17,500 kids are unable to attend summer camp due to their medical needs. The Painted Turtle strives to provide these children and their families with an empowering and renewing experience, and the camp is completely free of charge.
The Painted Turtle is the sixth addition to Paul Newman’s family of Hole in the Wall Camps for seriously ill children. It is also the only multi-disease camp and family care center of its kind on the West Coast. The Painted Turtle has a goal to provide educational, therapeutic, safe and fun summer camp and year-round programs.
The Pali Blues Soccer Club opened their preseason slate this past Saturday with a 6-0 victory over USC. Next on tap is a friendly road contest with Cal State-Fullerton this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The Blues will play the first game of their inaugural USL W-League regular season on the road against the Ventura County Fusion on Saturday, May 10. The following weekend, the Blues will play their inaugural home contest at the “Stadium by the Sea” when they host the Los Angeles Legends on Saturday, May 17. Tickets for home match ups are only $10 for adults ($8 with student ID) and $5 for kids under the age of 12.
