PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. (Thursday, February 7, 2008) - The Pali Blues Soccer Club of the USL W-League will travel to Las Vegas this weekend to participate in the Silver Mug Tournament presented by Friendship Sports, Inc. The series of games will be the first formal match ups for the Blues since the club played to a 1-1 draw against the Beijing Women’s Soccer Team on January 4 at the “Stadium by the Sea.”
"It is a great opportunity to play in such a high level event this early in the 2008 season,” Blues head coach Charlie Naimo stated. “I have always looked forward to the opportunity of playing Ajax and the California Storm of the WPSL. We are looking forward to great matches this weekend."
The Blues will leave for Nevada on Friday to hold a pre-tournament training session on site. The team will first play Ajax on Saturday which is expected to be a highly-contested match up. Tournament officials feel that the two clubs could be the representatives in the tournament championship. Next up will be Athleticos and the Legacy to conclude a busy Saturday with the Denver Diamonds on tap for the Blues on Sunday. The semifinals round and championship will also be played on that same day. The location of the events will be the Silver Soccer Bowl Complex in Las Vegas.
